How is Zakat calculated?

Zakat is 2.5% of your total zakatable wealth held above the Nisab threshold for one full lunar year (Hawl). The Nisab is 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver — whichever is lower in value is the threshold you check against.

Add up all your zakatable assets (cash, gold, silver, investments, business stock, receivables), subtract any immediately due debts, and if the net total exceeds the Nisab, you pay 2.5% of the entire amount.
